From journal entries and bank reconciliations to geode nails and pop art makeup, our May MC Elite is going out to Jasmyne Wishlow from the esthetics program at our Kelowna campus! “I used to be an accounting assistant for over a year and a half, and I hated being in an office and in front of a computer all day and doing the same thing all day, everyday. With esthetics, I love the diversity of it and how you are able to do something different and meaningful everyday. I can come in and do facials and the next day I could do some mad nails. I love making people feel good” says Jasmyne.
“She is excellent with her fellow students, very positive and encouraging. She puts a lot of effort into her professional image everyday. The quality of her work is excellent. It has been amazing to watch the journey from day one to today and to see her excel so quickly in something that is such a passion for her” says Esthetics Instructor, Chelsea McCagherty.
Why did you choose Esthetics as a career?
“I’ve always enjoyed doing makeup and nails on my family and friends. My good friend Sydney gave me the push to get into esthetics. She saw how passionate I am about makeup and really encouraged to get into it”
What do you like most about the industry so far?
“Everyone I have met in this industry is so passionate about what they do. It really makes me excited to be part of it all. I love seeing the creativity behind makeup transformations and photo shoots, and seeing people genuinely love what they do.”
What do you love about MC College?
“I love my classmates and teachers and the overall environment at MC College. Everyone is so happy and it’s such a positive and uplifting environment.”
Who or what motivates you?
“My good friend Sydney because she really encouraged me to get into Esthetics. She believed in me and that means a lot.”
What has been the most challenging thing you’ve learned or faced while at MC College?
“Brazilian waxes… It was an interesting experience but I think I’m a pro at it now!”
What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
“Keep on doing what you’re doing. Trust the process and never give up on your dreams. You can be happy if you just follow what makes you happy.”
What’s your secret to getting clients?
“Having mad skills at nails. I’m just joking! But social media has really helped me. I promote my work on different social media channels which has helped me get my name out there.”
Do you have any social media tips to offer MC College Students?
“Document everything. Take before and after pictures and always post them so that people can see your progress.”
Every month, Campus Directors and Instructors nominate a student they feel should be recognized as an MC Elite. Students are chosen based on their use of social media to promote themselves and by tagging #mccollege and #mclife in their social media posts.
