DIY Studio: the Art of Braiding

Facebook

Have you ever pinned hundreds of images of different braids on Pinterest, tried it out on yourself but ended up a few hours later in tears of frustration with your hair in a tangled mess? #pinterestfail. We know how you feel!

Last night, our Kelowna, Edmonton, Red Deer, Calgary, Saskatoon and Winnipeg campus hosted a free DIY Studio event: the Art of Braiding. Our Hairstyling Students and Instructors showed attendees the tips and tricks and braiding hacks to create the braided looks they love while our Esthetics students did mini manicures.

From the classic 3 strand braid to the waterfall and fishtail braid, stations were set up throughout each campus. We had snacks, prizes, swag bags full of Artego samples to keep attendees’ braids on point and a $1000 MC College tuition scholarship to give-a-way!

At our Kelowna campus, we had students from the Centre For Arts and Technology’s photography, film and fashion program showcase their work and announce the collaboration between the two schools.

SHARING THE LOVE💕

Throughout the year, MC College Students and Staff at each campus volunteered at a variety of events. Because we couldn’t just choose one event to highlight, we made a list of the top 2 events at each campus:

Kelowna

diy 15

  • Shaved over 120 heads at the 9th annual “Bald Falcon” event at Dr. Knox Middle School. $16,011 was raised for the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation!

Beauty tips with Dawn Marie: How to get a brighter, whiter smile!

Image

Just like our skin, your teeth can age over the years. Did you know that surface stains can be caused by the following?

  • Drinking coffee, tea, red wine, sodas
  • Tobacco
  • Accumulation of plaque and tartar
  • Eating highly pigmented foods such as blueberries and cherries
  • Antibiotics: tetracycline and doxycycline

We all want a whiter, brighter and younger smile-last year, 10 million Canadians spent over 1.7 billion dollars on teeth whitening products. Why spend thousands of dollars at the dental office and on over-the-counter remedies when you can make you own!

What you’ll need:

  • Toothpaste
  • Baking soda
  • Hydrogen peroxide- available at your location drug store
  • Water
  • Toothbrush

Directions:

  1. In a small cup, place a dime sized amount of toothpaste.
  2. Mix in 1 teaspoon of baking soda and ½ teaspoon of water.
  3. Add 1 teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide.
  4. Stir the mixture.
  5. Use your toothbrush and the mixture to brush your teeth for 2 minutes

To achieve maximum results, repeat steps 1-5 2 times a week. Once you start to see results, use the mixture once a month.
