Open house was a success!

If you attended our Open House last weekend, thanks! Over 300 people came through our doors to check out our Hairstyling, Esthetics and Fashion Design* programs, and experience the vibrant student atmosphere.

Our students were available to give tours of the campus and do complimentary services such as manicures, hand massages and mini hair make-overs. Both guests and students had a blast with our MC College frame at the photo booth:

In one classroom, computers were set up so guests can explore Artist Access; MC College’s online learning resource. In Artist Access, students can access their textbooks and classroom materials from their smart phones, tablets and laptops… anywhere, anytime. In another classroom, there were Financial Advisors from BMO, RBC and CIBC available to answer questions about financing and funding.

At the event, every campus held a student-led photo shoot. From Gossip Girl to Hollywood glamour and Walking Dead themed photo shoots, MC College students did hair, make-up and wardrobe styling on models, and directed the photo shoot.

Potential students and their families had the chance to experience student life through hands-on, interactive demos. MC College students, staff and alumni showed guests how to do trendy nail art, smokey eye make-up, fashion design sketching and up-dos for prom.

See you next year!!

“Survival of the Fittest” Hair, Make-up and Style Competition at Calgary MC College

trical

Last week, Calgary MC College students from the Esthetics and Hairstyling department went head-to-head in a hair, make-up and style competition. With a strict deadline of 3 hours to execute and complete their creative concept, 6 teams ‘rose up to the challenge of their rivals’ (brownie points if you know the song!) to create looks that showcased the “Survival of the Fittest” theme. From looks that were inspired by the runways of New York Fashion Week to popular television series (Survivor and Walking Dead), students were judged based on the following criteria: creativity, originality, teamwork and the quality of make-up, hair and wardrobe styling, by the tribal council (the Calgary MC College administration team). With elements such as leopard print, camouflage, feathers and sparkling East Indian Sari’s, the 6 teams got the chance to capture their creativity in a professional photo shoot!
