MC College Fashion Grads Show Their Stuff

blue dress corset JacketLast night the 2013 graduating class of the Fashion Design program at MC College Edmonton showcased their graduating collections in a stunning runway fashion show as part of Western Canada Fashion Week.  The collections varied from flowery, flirty resort wear to futuristic street wear.  The show, held at the Transalta Arts Barns, was completely sold out with a capacity crowd of 300 guests, family, friends and fashionistas.

Even the fashion experts were impressed.  Avenue magazine tweeted “Really impressed with the student designs from MC College”.  Local Fashion Guy, John Chwyl from Kingsway Mall said “….the students’ collections were very impressive. MC College should be proud…and not just of the talented students but the teacher support for them, that is obviously equally as talented. My two stand out collections were Heather Curtis and Daniel Bullock. I know I will be able to say ‘I saw Daniel’s graduation collection’ when he becomes a huge star!’”

The graduates: Heather Curtis, Krzysia Schwartz, Millie Cameron, Katherina Buyer, Farrah Hart, Aman Chahal, Jessica Barthel, Sneha Parvez, Aimee Ricard, Imarie Darkstone, Yushan Zhang, Ashlynn King, Jessalyn Vickery and Daniel Bullock had their moment in the spot light amidst photographers’ flashing cameras and cheers from the crowd.

The annual graduating fashion show is truly a showcase of MC College student and staff talent.  Technical Advisor, Renato Candia, and Esthetics Instructor, Bryce Munroe, supervised the backstage work of Hairstyling and Esthetics students as they created beautiful looks for eighteen models at a frantic pace. It was a great night all around.

MC College Presents

The Artego Creative Lounge

This summer MC College was proud to create and begin using the Artego Creative Lounge.  Located at the Edmonton Campus, this facility was sponsored by Artego Canada and features a state of the art lecture and demonstration facility as well a fully functioning photography studio.  The first photo shoot in the space was a collaboration between all three departments of MC College, Hairstyling, Esthetics and Fashion Design.

MC College Technical Advisor, Renato Candia was working the salon floor assisting students with clients when he spotted a beautiful young woman having her hair done.  Always on the look out for potential models, Renato approached the client and asked if she had ever considered being a model.  The student was thrilled to create an edgy look on model, Zoriana.  The next step involved a trip to the fashion lab where they discovered the post apocalyptic warrior influenced designs of student Danny Bullock’s graduating collection.  The collection fit perfectly with the theme and add in Esthetics Instructor, Honour O’Donovon’s, bold make up and the creative photo session Warrior was born.

This Thursday night all the Fashion Design Graduates will be showing their collections as a kick off to Western Canada Fashion Week.
